The group was incorporated on October 28, 1985. Its primary goal at the time was to investigate the number of elective abortions being performed at taxpayer expense in John Peter Smith County Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. In order to inform the public about this deplorable situation, on behalf of Northeast Tarrant Right to Life, Neal Adams and John Lynch (attorneys at Adams, Meier, Addison & Associates working pro bono), began the process of attending numerous meetings and diligently obtaining pages and pages of information on November 5, 1985. In the end, Northeast Tarrant Right to Life was responsible for ending elective abortions at John Peter Smith Hospital except in cases of rape or emergencies as of March 27, 1986.
Ever since then, in their desire to educate the public on pro-life issues, Northeast Tarrant Right to Life, which is ecumenical, continue to hold monthly meetings with their Directors and Officers to determine how they might best promote the pro-life message in Northeast Tarrant County. In the past, the Association has hosted numerous "Meet the Candidates Nights” for the purpose of educating the citizens on where the candidates stand on pro-life matters. They have also exhibited and promoted pro-life materials at local fairs, festivals, and churches and continue to host a monthly protest at the corner of Harwood and Central Ave. in Bedford TX, where a Planned Parenthood Office is located. The Association also maintains a website (www.netrighttolife.org) for educating the public.
Interesting quote from a cited case in the 1985 legal presentation: "We only hold that a child which is capable of independent life outside its mother's womb has an independent existence as person apart from its mother....We recognize what all parents know-- that the child whose heartbeat they can hear, whose kick they can feel, and whose movement they can see, is not a thing, nor a mere extension of the mother's body, but is an independent person, temporarily residing within the mother's uterus."
