The Human Life Protection Act is a complete ban on abortion, beginning at fertilization, that will go into effect (triggered) when and to the extent the Supreme Court reverses or modifies Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
"We are thrilled to see the Human Life Protection Act on Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick's list of top priorities for the 87th Legislature," said Dr. Joe Pojman, Texas Alliance for Life's Executive Director. "If the Supreme Court changes its terrible precedent and allows states to protect unborn babies before viability, Texas needs to be ready with a new law to ban abortion," Pojman added.
Ten states have passed essentially the same law: Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Utah.
