Texas Governor Greg Abbott has signed a pro-life bill that would ban local governments from funding the Planned Parenthood abortion business, which kills over 330,000 unborn babies in abortions every year.
Abbott signed SB 22, the No Taxpayer Dollars to Abortion Providers Act. which protects taxpayers from subsidizing abortion companies and their affiliates through state and local tax dollars. Officials with Texas Right to Life, which supported the legislation, say the new law marks “the next step in removing all public funds from the abortion industry.”
Senator Donna Campbell (R-New Braunfels) and Representative Candy Noble (R-Lucas) sponsored the defunding bill that would:
The measure tales effect September 1 and it prevents local governments from entering into reduced tax and lease agreements with abortion businesses. It also prevents cities and counties from “advocacy or lobbying on behalf of the interests of an abortion provider or affiliate.”
It would affect Planned Parenthood in East Austin, which signed a 20-year lease with the city of San Antonio for $1 per month. Planned Parenthood has leased the building since 1974 and was able to renew its lease last November, and the abortion center refers women for abortions.
“The Texas Legislature has made significant progress since 2011 in removing state funding to the abortion industry, reallocating most of those dollars to health care providers that administer a wide spectrum of services to a broad population of clients without offering abortion. SB 22 codifies these Pro-Life protections and ensures local governments cannot circumvent the will of Texas’ Pro-Life majority,” Texas Right to Life said. “Texas Right to Life is thankful that the Legislature took this next important step in protecting Pro-Life taxpayers from subsidizing the abortion industry.”
Abortions are never safe for unborn babies, and Planned Parenthood does more abortions than any other group in America. Its 2018 annual reportlists 332,757 abortions and a record $1.66 billion in revenue. Leana Wen, the new president of Planned Parenthood, recently admitted that abortion is their “core mission.”
